The
Alzheimer's Association of St. Louis provides a multitude of programs and
services which include:
Helpline:
Resources
and information for caregiving families staffed by trained volunteers. These
services are provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-980-9080.
Care Consultation:
Free short-term professional consultation is available to assist families with
accessing resources, managing difficult behaviors, learning coping skills and
planning for future care needs.
Family Care Planning:
Care consultations and planning assistance in the family home or chapter office
are available, and free to members.
Early Diagnosed Programs:
Project Esteem
offers small support groups
and coping strategies for persons with mild dementia and their families.
Support Groups:
Support groups meet throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area, and are led by
trained facilitators who assist individuals in sharing their experiences and
offering mutual support.
Respite Care Assistance:
Eligible families receive information, consultation and financial reimbursement
for adult day care, in-home and short-term residential care services. Also,
referral to area nursing homes offering free two-night respite stays are
available.
Safe Return:
The
safe return program is a nationwide identification program to enable others to
identify, locate and return people with dementing illnesses who are lost.
The
St. Louis Alzheimer's Association also offers family and community education,
health fairs, conferences, community workshops, library services, a newsletter,
professional training opportunities and a speakers bureau as well as various
other services.
